Get Involved!

Public outreach and engagement have always been a cornerstone of the Joint Danube Surveys. JDS5 offers numerous ways to expand on the strong outreach approach previously established in JDS1-4 to make sure the public can join the mission.
Key efforts include:
- Citizen Science Opportunities: In collaboration with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the EU, selected participants from across the Danube River Basin will have opportunities to engage directly in water sampling for the analysis of pollutants, including microplastics and emerging contaminants. Direct engagement fosters a sense of connection and responsibility toward the river.
- Educational Initiatives: Expanding partnerships with schools, youth councils, and community groups to promote environmental awareness and encourage a personal connection with the Danube among younger generations.
- Targeted Campaigns: Concentrated use of social media, press releases, and digital storytelling to amplify the results of JDS5 and its relevance for the public.
- Events: Aligning with flagship events like Danube Day to maximize outreach potential. Major events such as Danube Day, Danube Art Master, and other community-driven initiatives throughout the basin will be leveraged to maximize public involvement and increase visibility of JDS5 efforts.
- Localized Communication Strategies: Recognizing the diverse linguistic and cultural contexts of the Danube River Basin, national communication coordinators will tailor outreach materials and activities to their specific regions, ensuring effective engagement across all participating countries.
- Interactive Digital Tools: Stay updated with real-time stories from scientists and interactive features.
